Permanent, 7 hours per week
It is a great time to join the University and support our faith communities. In Autumn 2022 we will move into a new purpose-built faith centre at the heart of campus. Named the Jo Cox – More in Common Centre, the 1,000 square metre two storey Multi Faith Centre will provide a space for reflection for staff and students from all faiths and backgrounds. A shared meeting hall, daily prayer rooms and a lounge will provide opportunities for university members of all faiths and none to meet, engage and reflect. Built to the WELL standard and incorporating natural materials the contemporary space will reflect aspects of spirituality, worship, and mindfulness.
We are now seeking a Muslim Chaplain to join our team of Faith Advisors and Chaplains to provide pastoral and spiritual support to those of all faiths and none. A key responsibility will be to lead Friday Prayers and we would anticipate candidates would always be available on a Friday and use other hours flexibly to meet staff and student’s needs.
Working approximately 7 hours per week, the postholder will work some core hours around Friday Prayers and we would anticipate a dialogue with the successful candidate to agree working patterns that meet user’s needs.
Successful candidates will work with other Faith Advisors and the Church of England Coordinating Chaplain (presently been recruited) to meet the University communities’ spiritual needs but also embed a More in Common and interfaith approach to the work of the Faith Centre. We are looking for team members who can develop and deliver activities directly and through volunteers that enable the practice of faith and enable regular great get together and interfaith activity. Supporting and creating a welcoming community characterised by curiosity mutual respect, tolerance and understanding is a key objective.
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
We offer an excellent employment package including hybrid working, blending a mix of remote and on-campus working (dependent on work duties).
If you are currently registered as a student at the University, please note that you may only apply for part-time jobs of 15 hours or less per week.
