The Department of Engineering and Technology houses two EPSRC Centres of Excellence (Ion Beam Centre, IBC and Centre for Precision Technologies, CPT) and a number of other research centres and institutes. These centres and institute are led by professors in the Mechanical Engineering Subject Area. For example, our Institute of Railway Research has helped to improve the design and safe operation of railway vehicles and track including key performance aspects such as suspension design, wheel-rail contact, traction and braking. The EPSRC’s IBC studies the interaction of energetic particles with matter and feeds into developments in nuclear materials, semiconductors and nanotechnology. The CPT is known for its innovation in measurement techniques and application of novel additive manufacturing technologies for applications including medical implants and aero-engines. We are also an EPSRC doctoral training partner in Materials.
Our Mechanical Engineering Subject Area, at the University of Huddersfield is seeking to recruit two senior lecturers in Thermofluids area to enhance our research and teaching portfolios as well as our expertise in anticipation of future developments and expansions. We welcome applications from excellent candidates in all areas related to this area of expertise. However, applications from candidates with a strong academic record relevant to energy, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, multi-component flows or climate change are particularly welcomed.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree and outstanding research track record in thermofluids engineering or a closely related field. Excellent teaching and communication skills are also essential. The successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment and be qualified to teach a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in mechanical engineering subject area. Ability to advance and teach the theory, methods, tools and practices on all levels of the of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum of mechanical engineering is advantageous.
